Luca Bonvicini arrested in France

Luca Bonvicini was arrested by the French authorities in Paris on March 10. Bonvicini is accused of the arson of a dairy production center, the Centro Latticini srl in Montelupo Fiorentino (Florence, Italy) on December 31, 2012.
Luca Bonvicini, il terzo membro del commando animalista che nella notte di Capodanno ha dato alle fiamme il Centro Latticini srl di Montelupo Fiorentino, è stato arrestato a Parigi nella notte del 10 Marzo dopo una latitanza durata due mesi. Durante l’assalto, condotto assieme a Filippo Serlupi e Lorenzo Oggioni, numerosi furgoni dell’azienda carichi di latte e latticini sono stati incendiati, causando danni anche ai capannoni, per un danno totale stimato in oltre mezzo milione di euro. L’azione è stata rivendicata a nome del Fronte Liberazione Animale, per protestare contro lo sfruttamento animale di cui sarebbe stato artefice il Centro. Il gruppo è stato identificato rapidamente dalla DIGOS grazie ad alcuni video postati online da uno dei suoi membri, portando in una settimana all’arresto di Serlupi (22) e Oggioni (29). Bonvicini (41) era invece riuscito a riparare in Francia, dove si è nascosto fino all’arresto da parte della polizia francese. Tra le accuse di cui dovranno rispondere quella di incendio doloso con l’aggravante di aver agito con finalità terroristiche. L’elenco dei capi di imputazione potrebbe però allargarsi: le autorità sono infatti convinte che il gruppo sia responsabile di tre altri gravi atti estremisti di matrice animalista compiuti tra l’Ottobre e il Novembre 2012 sempre in Toscana, nei quali due macelli ed un centro distribuzione carni sono stati presi d’assalto e fatti oggetto di atti vandalici e incendi.

Bonvicini, 41, is one of those thought to be responsible for the arson of a dairy production centre, the Centro Latticini srl in Montelupo Fiorentino (Florence) on December 31, 2012. The dairy was set on fire to protest against animal exploitation.
Bonvicini's alleged accomplices, Filippo Serlupi and Lorenzo Oggioni, were arrested by the police soon after the incident but Bonvicini evaded capture by fleeing to France, where he was a fugitive for two months.
The attack on the dairy resulted in the destruction of several trucks, dairy products and warehouses, causing an estimated damage of over half a million euros.
The group was identified by a special investigative branch of the Italian police, DIGOS, thanks to videos of their actions that one of the member of the group posted online. The three men will be soon facing trial, charged with serious offences including complicity in arson and terrorism. Further investigations are continuing, as the extremists are also believed to be involved in three other incidents carried out between October and November 2012 in Tuscany, where two slaughterhouses and a meat distribution centre were broken into and set on fire.
