Nature editorial discusses the Pro-Test movements in the UK and Italy
This editorial in Nature reminds the reader about the Pro-Test group initiated by the 16-year-old British school pupil Laurie Pycroft in January 2006 in Oxford UK. Pycroft organizing a rally to coincide with an activists’ demonstration. This was very successful, as 1000 scientists and students attended outnumbering the 200 or so protesters.
The editorial goes on to describe Pro-Test Italia and the actions it is taking to defend research in Italy. Meanwhile, more than 4,000 researchers around the globe had signed a call for solidarity from the Basel Declaration Society just one week after the request was posted.
